What’s Inside?
This Gathering is Centred around the practical, philosophical, political and pedagogical approaches to artistic creation and performance in Tree Scapes.
This is an opportunity for performers artists and practitioners to take their work into a new dimension and to embed their currant practices within trees.
Participants will explore affordances tree spaces have to offer in nourishing our artistic, performative and creative sensibilities.
We will switch between two modes of learning:
Vertical - Where we offer a space to learn ideas, methods, and practices proposed by us.
Horizontal - Where we learn via collective intelligence, share embodied practice and emergent pedagogy.
Participants will leave with three main outcomes:
ways of applying, thinking and expressing their currant art form in tree scapes.
A Set of Applications and practices that can be utilised and shared and embedded in tree scapes.
nourished Eco Artistic, Creative and Performative sensibilities to carry into future Projects.
The Learning Approach
Participatory Action
Transformation through direct experience.
While allowing the material to be co-creational and emergent, we will also be basing the residency off principles inspired by Contact Improvisation, Contemporary Dance, Feldenkrais Method, Arboreal Locomotion, Parkour and Martial Arts.
Witnessing Observation
Learning by seeing.
Understanding the transformative power of quiet contemplation and witnessing. Time will be spent watching and observing what is happening as an approach to integration and deeper introspection on our collective pursuit for understanding.
Reflexive Discussion
Developing shared language.
We will take time to understand the processes we have uncovered by developing shared vocabulary to talk about phenomenological experience. This will also be time to understand how our currant disciplines can be embedded into non-human made contexts.
Collective Research
Cultivating Collective Intelligence.
CoCreated Research and developmental material. How we come together with a shared intention and no leader. Everyone establishing themselves as a generative figure to move towards something emergent and collective. A pillar of this residency.
Who is this for
This Is Residency Is Not Open Level.
Is is designed for people who are already deep into their own performative/ artistic medium. Examples may include, circus performers, dancers, acro yogis, Avid rock/ tree climbers, Acrobats, Parkour Athletes…
We aim to explore high level physical practices in vertical environments, attributes such as strong spacial awareness, falling abilities, and good understanding of weight distribution will be necessary.

Practical Information

The Property is just outside central Varese, Italy.
The closest train station is Varese Station.
It’s a 25 minuet walk from the station or a 10 minuet bus.
Varese Train Station can be accessed directly from Milan Malpensa airport by train.

You will be hosted in a large private garden full of ancient Italian trees.
You will need to bring your own camping equipment (tent, sleeping bag, matt)
A full kit list will be provided upon booking confirmation.

Food will not be included.
There is a large supermarket 3 minuet walk from the property.
The site has drinkable water onsite available to use.
There will also be a large communal fridge.

As well as a communal fridge.
